6 Signs that Prove You are in an Emotionally Abusive Relationship

Nothing is more detrimental to your confidence and self-esteem than being in an emotionally abusive relationship. Unlike physical abuse that results in dramatic and violent outbursts, emotional abuse can be more insidious and difficult to assess.

In intimate relationships, men and women are known to emotionally abuse one another and, in some cases, neither the abuser nor the victim is fully aware that this is happening. This is because they allowed themselves to either be blinded by love or they just enjoy being stupid.

How do you identify an emotionally abusive partner?

Silvia Congost, author of the book “Is it love or addiction?” said:

“Any person, whether male or female, who is in a relationship where the other partner insults, disrespects, denigrates, or humiliates their other half, then that’s an abusive relationship”.

In today’s article, we would look at different signs that indicate your other half is not really in love with you but is emotionally abusing you.

He is jealous:

Your spouse is not only jealous of your family and friends but also jealous of your dreams, ambitions, and goals in life. He gets angry because you aren’t entirely dependent on him. He hates to see you prosper and if by chance he was given the key to your success, then he would have thrown it into the ocean. Yea! That’s how bad it can be.

 He blames you for everything:

When the tap isn’t flowing, he blames you for it. When the gas gets finished unexpectedly, he blames you for it. When he is feeling sick, he blames you for giving him sour food even though you never did. Maybe one day if he forgets to wash his ass after pooing he might just blame it on you too.

If your partner is fond of blaming you even for his own mistakes and if he enjoys exaggerating minor issues just to hurt you, then you must learn how to defend yourself.

He belittles you:

He will never support you, no matter what you do nor how you do it.  When it comes to you, nothing is ever done well enough. Do not let him belittle you! Value yourself and value your achievements without him!

He makes you nervous:

An emotionally violent partner will try all means to make you feel his superiority, and will not hesitate to use physical violence when things are not done his way. He instills fear in you. So, in such a relationship, your opinion can never count. All you can ever be is the sheep that follows quietly wherever the bad shepherd leads.

He is selfish:

He only talks about what you will do for him.  He expects you to give him all your love, affection, trust, and remain committed to him. What about buying gifts? He expects you to do that but in return, he offers you nothing.

There is nothing wrong if you want to make your partner happy, but your kind acts should be reciprocated too. If you are the only one contributing to the success of the relationship then one day you might just wake up to realize that all the sacrifices you made were not worth it.

 He manipulates you:

After all the arguments, persuasions, criticisms, he makes you believe that you are responsible for everything. He tells you that you deserve to be treated badly because of your past mistakes. He tells you that even if you were to leave him, you can never find someone as cute or as rich as he is.

You are too strong to yield to his manipulation. Whatever silly thing he might say to you, do not accept it. If he calls you ugly, tell him you are the prettiest girl on earth. If he tries to blackmail you with your past mistakes, tell him you don’t live in your past any longer. Besides, your past has been forgiven. If he tries to hold you down with his evil spell, don’t just sit there and cry when you can actually rise up and break that evil spell!
